Sarasota sticks to its guns

The meanest city in America is standing by the law that won it the title.

The ordinance, which prohibits homeless people from sleeping outdoors, is a tool to safeguard the homeless and lead them to help, said Sarasota Mayor Mary Ann Servian.

"This is the best thing we can do for them," she said.

That's just awful. It is not only cruel, ironically the way many governments neglect to address homelessness (often citing costs) is in fact ends up being more expensive than the more humane solutions.
