This is no time to be silent;
call your Congressman today!

It’s hard to believe, but some in Congress want to use Hurricane Katrina as an excuse to make even deeper cuts in programs that serve the needy.

On Thursday, the House of Representatives is expected to vote on increasing the cuts in food stamps, Medicaid, TANF, child welfare services, SSI, unemployment insurance and other vital programs from $35 billion to $50 billion. Read more about the cuts Congress is considering here.

Call your Representative today at 1-800-426-8073. Use this toll-free number (thanks to the American Friends Service Committee) to be connected the Capitol switchboard.

The Coalition on Human Needs suggests telling your Congressman:

My name is ______________ and I live in [your town or city]. I would like Representative _____________ to oppose $35 billion to $50 billion or more in cuts to food stamps, Medicaid and other vital programs and to oppose $70 billion more in tax cuts.

The right priorities are protecting people from hardship and investing in housing, jobs and other services that families need -- not squandering billions on tax cuts for the well-connected.
And help spread the word. Start by e-mailing this post to everyone you know.

That's why it's a blog, sweetie. I totally agree with Jackie, with the addition of the following:
Let's cut out all the war bux and starve *the war* out, instead of our aging and/or disabled US citizen population.
