Crooks using homeless people to do dirty work

Here's how it works: a scam artist picks up homeless people in Atlanta, gives them fake IDs and persuades them to come to the suburbs to try to pass fake checks.

If the scam works, the homeless person gets a cut. And if not, the criminals figure it's better for the homeless person to get caught than them. The homeless person is left to face the law, while the organizers of the crime drive away to scam another day.

Helping the check scam masterminds is another sad fact about homeless people -- they're often unreliable witnesses, knowing only street names or otherwise being unable to point out to authorities who hired them for the check scams.

You can read the whole story on the website of Atlanta's WSBTV here.
