Labor camp may be shut down

The East Palatka labor camp is ''unsafe for habitation'' and will be shut down unless its just-indicted owner quickly fixes faulty plumbing, unvented gas heaters in sleeping areas, missing smoke detectors, improper wiring, open junction boxes, food sanitation issues and gas tanks too close to the camp and other violations.

The labor boss, Ronald R. Evans Sr., has been barred from the compound while he is free on $50,000 bond. He faces federal charges of lying to officials.
