The verdict is in: Guilty!

Two Plantation men accused of fatally beating a homeless man with a baseball bat and injuring two others were found guilty this morning of second-degree murder.

Thomas Daugherty, 19, and Brian Hooks, 21, were also convicted of two counts of attempted second-degree murder in the Jan. 12, 2006, attacks on homeless men in Fort Lauderdale.

The men face possible life prison terms when they're sentenced Oct. 22-23.

That's the problem with the death penalty. we just don't know how to use it. we'll put a guy to death for accidently shooting a guard in a hold-up, yet here you have two guy's, ON TAPE, beating to death a guy, or trying to, and knowing they killed before. Evidence right before your eyes, and second degree? I give up.

It should have been first degree, but I'm sure that a second degree murder conviction will keep these guys away from society for a long long time. Perhaps others will think twice before hurting some of the most vulnerable members of our society.

The verdict is in Guilty on 4 counts and not guilty on the 5th. I don't get all that I know about this entire situation. It is my understanding that before the investigation got started the Federal Prosecutor, Fitzgerald knew who outed Valerie Plume. Now that is what the investigation was suppose to find out.
