Cop praised and ridiculed
for helping homeless woman

A Bradenton police officer went out of his way to save a homeless woman's possessions after he arrested her -- and may ended up being reprimanded for his trouble.

With one hand on his squad car steering wheel and the other on the shopping cart holding Marie Brooks' things, Officer Nicholas Evans pulled it along as he drove the 12 miles to the Manatee County jail.

Evans has taken some heat on a law enforcement-oriented online message board that is open to the public. Check out the comments under the heading Shopping Cart Caper.
