Florida is the most dangerous state
for homeless people

Florida was the deadliest place to be homeless in the United States last year, according to a report from the National Coalition for the Homeless.

The state had more violent and fatal attacks than any other state, the report says. Nationally, the homeless coalition recorded 20 fatal attacks and a total of 142 reported violent acts against the homeless. Eight of the deaths were in Florida, including two in Orlando. Other deaths occurred in Bunnell, Deland, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, Ruskin and West Palm Beach. Other violent acts occurred in Bradenton, Charlotte County, Fort Myers, Gibsonton, Kissimmee, Lauderhill, Manatee County, Merritt Island, Port Charlotte, Riviera Beach and Tampa.

Read the report, entitled Hate, Violence, and Death on Main Street USA, here.

I was wondering about that for a moment as I was scrolling down, J. Have you found any report/studies that reflect how many cases were where victims were alone as opposed to two or more homeless people congregating when attacked?

I see the longer someone's experiencing homelessness, they have a tendency to lower their guard and be less aware of surrounding security threats. I think that's why so many older people are the ones getting attacked, as opposed to the young adults through 30 somethings.

That's an interesting observation, but no, I haven't seen any report addressing that specific question.

I s'poze it could be figured out from the NCH report, though, as it does provide details on each incident.
